Jimmy Kimmel Live! returns tonight after a two-week hiatus, but without Kimmel at the helm.
Kimmel announced he was taking the summer off, after broadcasting monologues and conducting interviews at home under quarantine, to spend time with his family away from the camera. And he insisted the summer break is unrelated to his recent apologies for appearing in blackface during sketches for The Man Show on Comedy Central during his pre-ABC nights.
“My summer vacation has been planned for more than a year and includes the next two summers off as well,” Kimmel said. “I will be back to work in September. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to explain and to those I’ve disappointed, I am sorry.”
While they haven’t unveiled a full list of substitute hosts, who presumably all will have to work under quarantine Zoom-like conditions, this week’s guest hosts are Anthony Anderson (star of ABC”s Black-ish) and Billy Eichner (star of Billy on the Street).
