Each season, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars reliably has at least one designated comedian among the dancers — of course, there are usually more than that who prove to be jokes as contestants. And in Season 17, which began last week, stand-up comedian Bill Engvall is that dancer.
Engvall survived the first elimination at the end of Monday night’s show, barely beating out former Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
Earlier last night, Engvall and his partner Emma Slater danced the jive. The judges and the audience loved it; judges lobbing adjectives like “fun” and “fantastic” and “best of the season” at them, and lauding the 56-year-old “Blue Collar” comedian for performing as well as celebrity contestants less than half his age.
Roll the clip.
Last week’s dances had given Engvall among the lowest scores (Bill Nye the Science Guy trailed the whole field in week one), but he obviously has a good base of support among the viewers who are casting votes so far.
Here is Engvall’s week one intro clip and foxtrot.
Tune in next Monday to see how long Engvall can stick around!
