After roasting celebrity tabloid fodder-seekers such as Charlie Sheen and Donald Trump, Comedy Central is going back to comedians for its 2012 Roast, announcing it’ll air a Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne Barr on Aug. 12, 2012.
And it already has a Twitter hashtag: #RoseanneRoast.
No announcement yet on who’ll serve as Roastmaster or sit on the dais to take potshots at Roseanne. UPDATED! Comedy Central announced on Wednesday that Jane Lynch will preside as Roastmaster for Roseanne. “I’ve long fantasized of ripping Roseanne Barr a new one. But because I don’t have the cajones to say anything offensive to her face, I will be hosting the proceedings,” said Lynch.
It’ll tape in Los Angeles the weekend before it airs. So if you’re looking for spoilers, check Twitter the night of Saturday, Aug. 4. Let me know if Tom Arnold gets any airtime!
Quotes from the press release:
“Although Roseanne appears to be a demure, soft spoken woman eternally committed to the status quo, we believe under the surface is an explosive, trail-blazing cultural revolution. We are honored to Roast her,” said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s head of original programming and production. “Celebrating Roseanne’s unprecedented achievements in comedy and television will surely inspire us to make this Roast more reminiscent of the classic roasts, where the intimacy of friends jousting with each other came through.”
Roseanne added, “All I can say is good luck finding anything about me to make fun of… I mean, I’ve never made a mistake or offended anyone in my life!”
