Saturday Night Live begins its 34th season on Sept. 13, 2008, with the first of four consecutive new episodes, and seven new episodes in the first eight weeks. That said, it’s an NBC program. NBC has earned ratings gold this month with almost non-stop coverage of swimming golden boy Michael Phelps at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. So, who wants to bet that Phelps not only hosts one of these first seven SNLs, but maybe even the season opener? Hoops king LeBron James (also a likely Olympic gold medalist) hosted last year’s debut. Place your bets in the comments. Nothing to lose.

I don’t know if Phelps is “Not Ready for Primetime” material, although he couldn’t be worse than some of the other athletes who’ve hosted in the past. Have you heard his interviews? http://www.entertonement.com/collections/2197/Michael-Phelps
