The Comic’s Comic on MSNBC: Morning buzz begets ratings for late-night TV in 2014

With the Winter Olympics over and out, the late-night TV comedy/talk/variety melee of 2014 begins in earnest tonight.

Late Night with Seth Meyers debuts tonight on NBC. The Pete Holmes Show begins a new second season at midnight on TBS, up against the surging @midnight on Comedy Central. And, of course, we’ll see who viewers tune into at 11:35 or 11:37 p.m. (Eastern/Pacific) now that it’s Jimmy Fallon on against David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, Stephen Colbert, Arsenio Hall and everything else that’s on in that half-hour. Jon Stewart, Chelsea Handler and Andy Cohen already are grabbing hold of plenty of viewing demographics in the preceding half-hour while your elders are watching the late local news.

I’ve written all about the myriad of mirth in the midnight hour on the TV now.

And in case you missed it, I also spoke a little about this last weekend on MSNBC with anchor T.J. Holmes. Roll the clip to see my fathead:
