One year. One comedian. Two videos.
We have become so accustomed to having video in the palms of our hands that it can be confusing how much we’re living our experiences and how much we’re documenting them. The line is blurry. Even when brought into sharp focus.
Nevertheless. However.
Rory Scovel brings us a hypnotic look into the life of a comedian by documenting an entire year in his life. Well, at least parts of every day in that year, 2012. Friends. Loved ones. Fellow comedians. Gigs. Trains, planes and automobiles. Lots of airplanes and airports. Downtime. TV spots and commercial shoots. Restaurants. Lodging of various types and classes. A little bit of everything.
I’ll let Scovel explain: “I tried to give myself a project for 2012, it was sort of my New Years resolution, to try and make something. So I videotaped a little of everyday during the year and cut it into a musical collage of footage. This is only part 1, January to early June. I def. missed some days here and there throughout the year but overall got a good amount of footage. I cut it together as I collected the footage so I didn’t really know what this whole thing would look like. Some parts I wish I could change but have decided to keep moving forward instead of touching up. This part 1 was cut on imovie, before I got Final Cut Pro, which is what Part II is cut on. I hope you enjoy it.”
Roll the clips.
Scovel continues: “This is part 2, June to December. I def. missed some days here and there throughout the year but overall got a good amount of footage. I cut it together as I collected the footage so I didn’t really know what this whole thing would look like. Some parts I wish I could change but have decided to keep moving forward instead of touching up. This part was cut on Final Cut Pro. I hope you enjoy it.”
