Sketch, improv, jokes, it’s all part of Philadelphia’s first-ever “Comedy Month” in November 2010

New York City and Boston may be hosting their annual comedy festivals in November 2010, but only Philadelphia is trying to make November "Comedy Month." Or at least the first three weeks of the month.

I know it's still August, but today is the early deadline for groups from the city of brotherly love and other cities who love comedy who are looking to submit for the second week of Philadelphia's Comedy Month, Philly Sketchfest. There's a late submission deadline of Sept. 15, as well as a live sketch competition Sept. 1 at Helium Comedy Club.

Speaking of comedy in Philadelphia today, I'd be remiss if I didn't go off on a tangent to tell you that tonight at Helium, they're crowning the winner of the 5th Philly's Phunniest Person Competition! That's tonight as in tonight, tonight.

OK, back to the future. November 2010's Comedy Month.

Nov. 1-7, 2010, is the sixth annual Philadelphia Improv Festival

Nov. 8-14, 2010, is the third annual Philly Sketchfest

Nov. 15-21, 2010, is devoted to The Philadelphia Joke Initiative

All shows will take place at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre. You can follow all of this through their collaboration, the Philadelphia Comedy Collective.
