AltCom organizer Brian Joyce announced today there would be a second year for his AltCom! The Alternative Comedy Festival, in the Boston suburb of Somerville, Mass. "It's an incredibly unique mix of stand-up, sketch comedy, musical and political comedy, local acts and international acts," Joyce said in the announcement. "There's definitely something for everyone!"
Some familiar names to the Boston comedy community return home (or again from last year). The new addition in 2009 is a closing night live performance from the folks at The Onion on May 10 at The Armory, in a show that will include their takes on politics and news, short sketches and videos.
Other highlights: Opening night includes Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black, with performances by Leo Allen, Ken Reid and MC Mr. Napkins. Boston troupe Lafta Obscura will perform later that night. Friday's performers include Janeana Garofalo, Jamie Kilstein, Myq Kaplan and Micah Sherman; the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company with Rob Riggle; Eugene Mirman; and from the U.K., Ian Moore. Saturday's shows include "TOFUnny" (an all-vegan lineup with Myq Kaplan, Jamie Kilstein and MC Mr. Napkins); The Steamy Bohemians and their variety show, "Jerkus Circus"; and Brian Longwell.
