“Grinding is my love language.”
She’s joking about growing up a Jersey girl, but Jenny Gorelick could just as easily be describing how hard she hustles, personally and professionally, in her attempts to find love and commercial comedy success. Gorelick might apologize to every man she’s ever dated for writing about them (she chronicled one of her bad dates into a New York Times essay, eventually leading to her first book, “The Book of Red Flags: Dating Signs They’re Not It,” which came out earlier this year). But she found it hilariously ironic that a guy with a tattoo reading “SORRY MOM” on his butt couldn’t bring himself to actually say sorry to Gorelick for standing her up for their second date.
Which brings us to this easy, breezy, cover girl hour showcasing Gorelick’s clever joke writing and adorable stage presence.
She’ll lead us through her misadventures on dating apps such as Hinge and Raya, why she has a thing for magicians, and along the way she’ll spotlight the unfair expectations for women and how they behave in society, whether it’s moms, pop stars at Coachella, or even just Jenny’s dating life. She’ll get you imagining even more outlandish sets of Real Housewives (don’t get any ideas, Andy Cohen!), and earns big laughs just by joking: “If I wanted horns and ED, I’d go to Berlin.” Gorelick bookends her hour with a tale about a real-life bumpy airplane, correlating it to her own search for love and happiness.
But the more provocative revelation comes when she shares a slideshow with us, mapping out how her own dating expectations can lead her to the ultimate goal of motherhood by age 40. “Since I started telling that joke, I’ve had to change the timeline three times!”
