How can a performer pull off a fast-paced high-energy character showcase with a broken arm? Let Jonathan Oldfield show you how, in a fun hour that includes some clever bits of interactivity that allow him to also show you his improv chops.
The improv comes through his adaptation of the “Exquisite Corpse” game, having audience members draw one of three body parts of a character, then placing them on a spinning pole to land on various concoctions for him to draw an immediate caricature upon. One of Oldfield’s early gags in this hour involves the movie roles of Robin Williams, and whether coincidental or not, in some of his costumes and his energetic riffing, you can see a slight resemblance between Oldfield and Williams here.
He also sings, too! Making him at least a double threat, triple if you count the threat of bodily harm he already has a history of possessing toward himself.
Oldfield appeared in episodes of the second season of Andor, and has directed such star Fringe character showcases for Lorna Rose Treen and Joe Kent-Walters. But if this debut hour is anything to go on, Oldfield should be racking up more credits in front of the camera soon enough.
