Larry Dean: “Hellbent” at Edinburgh Fringe 2026

⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Am I a disappointment?”

How could Glasgow’s Larry Dean think himself a disappointment? Thrice nominated at the Fringe (for best newcomer in 2015, and best show in 2018 and 2022), Dean has just come off of his first season as a cast member of SNL UK.

And yet, even though he’s gigged at the Royal Variety Performance in 2024, and even though he has met the man he’d marry, he still asked his future partner if he considers Dean worthy. Of course he does! Still, Dean has rambunctious fun and deploys so many voices, accents and even shows off his foreign language skills to convey to us how he views Edinburgh and Scotland differently now, a year after moving to London, and how he proposed to and married his mate. Dean also looks back with amusement on how he had to remind King Charles after that Royal Variety Performance that he was the comedian, and not part of the cast of Oliver.

Now that Dean portrays him on SNL UK, there’s no doubt King Charles will be confused about Dean any longer.
