Honor Wolff and Patrick Durnan Silva play describe themselves as “annoyingly loud,” but this “shrill white lady” and this “closeted gay Brazilian” have combined forces in Australia to form a powerhouse sketch comedy duo.
I’d seen them perform earlier this year in Melbourne, where their crowds were already large and loyal, but felt the vastness of their stage and space didn’t really do Hot Department justice. In the cramped quarters of the Pleasance Courtyard bunkers, with audience members on three sides of them, their in-your-face approach launches their stupidest ideas quite literally in our faces. There’s no escaping their high-energy madness, and they benefit greatly from the charged atmosphere. At their core, they’re two theater kids just doing the most. But what an explosive core they are.
