Greg Larsen is a loud white male comedian in a suit, and not an aristocrat from a bygone era as depicted in the show’s promotional materials. But that’s not the revolting part.
Before Larsen began appearing in the dramatic TV series, The Tourist; before his award-winning sketch shows with Fancy Boy and “True Australian Patriots” or his solo works which garnered plaudits in 2021 and 2022; before all of that, he was just a teenager wondering if goths could be pagan. This hour finds Larsen digging up the dirty details of his life before comedy, which include stories about his pagan goth phase, his time learning to care about politics so he could pen more appropriate lyrics to belt out as frontman for a punk band, and that brief period in which he got paid to catfish unsuspecting fellas in chat rooms. It indeed gets more revolting as the hour moves along, but is any of it more revolting than discovering what the old TV “idiot box” was doing to our brains in the 1980s or 1990s, or what social media is doing to our mental health today?
