“Ted Hill: Tries and Fails to Fix Climate Change” at Edinburgh Fringe 2023

If you’re expecting a TED Talk here, then I’ve got good news and bad news for you. This is a talk by a man named Ted, but you won’t learn much of anything in an hour in which he’s told you upfront and in the title that he’s not going to be serving up any world-saving epiphanies.

Instead, Hill gives us a fast-paced PowerPoint presentation that barely even tries to educate us about any of the problems or solutions to humanity’s survival on an Earth whose climate is, indeed, changing. Hill not only is undermined by his own frenetic mind, but also by frequent interruptions by “Stephen,” Hill’s Microsoft AI support program. You might go so far as to call the misdirect of Hill’s show a bit of a Shell game. But as Hill himself says, it’s really just an hour of faffing around. If that’s your thing, then this is your show. Quite a few of the folks sitting near me found much to laugh about his faff.

Ted Hill: Tries and Fails to Fix Climate Change runs through Aug. 27 at Assembly George Square’s The Crate.
