“Amusements by Ikechukwu Ufomadu” at Edinburgh Fringe 2023

**** (out of 5)

I like Ike.

Of course, I never met Dwight D Eisenhower. But any president who not only predicted but warned against the rising military industrial complex is good in my book. Now I have met Ikechukwu Ufomadu, writer for Showtime’s Ziwe, and writer/performer for Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out The News, and having spent an hour in his presence, I can tell you that he’s a downright silly man, combining a tuxedo with sneakers and various accents, who infuses his show with almost constant commentary in a most meta fashion. He opened for Cat Cohen in Joe’s Pub as she prepped her new Fringe hour back in New York City, and I can only wonder what her crowd made of him. Here, on his own, he stands out.

Must love wordplay. Even better if you love words and plays; better still, the words and plays of William Shakespeare. If that’s not your style, then perhaps this might only register as a *** or ***1/2 show for you.

But I like Ike. And I really like his style. Four stars.

Amusements by Ikechukwu Ufomadu runs through Aug. 27 at Pleasance Courtyard Bunker Two
