Americans like me first caught a glimpse of Paul Foot some 14 summers ago, courtesy of Season 6 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Foot made it to the final 12 (Iliza Shlesinger won that year). So I was a bit curious to see what he’s up to now.
Turns out he’s quite disturbed, actually. Foot has written down some of his disturbing thoughts, and pulls them out to read. On the other side, facing the audience, we’re treated to drawings or paintings of Foot’s, which might be equally troubling once he has explained them throughly. But how do these imagined scenarios compare to the potential for realizing what may actually happen in the event of a water landing plane crash, when you have to inflate your life vest only to find it’s slightly busted? Does reimagining the end of the blockbuster movie Titanic help any? Foot will wade you through that scene, regardless.
If you prefer unrealistic situations, don’t worry. Foot has some ideas for adverts he’ll pitch you, too. All with a stammer and the posture of an ostrich.
Although he feels it cannot quite compare to the real horrors we’ve experienced throughout history, none of which gets the proper respect he feels they deserve.
Just remember that the next time you visit the Edinburgh dungeons.
