Ronny Chieng Inks Major Netflix Deal

Daily Show correspondent, Lexus spokesman and stand-up comedian Ronny Chieng has big things in the works for the coming year with Netflix.

Chieng’s new Netflix deal has him booked for two new stand-up specials, plus one special shot as a documentary. He previously released his funny Netflix debut special in late 2019, Asian Comedian Destroys America.

The documentary, which will co-star Daniel Fung, finds Fung and Chieng driving across America to visit various Chinatowns and exploring Asian-American culture. Chieng also wrote a guest column Thursday for The Hollywood Reporter addressing rising violence against Asians in America, and wondering how Hollywood can and should respond.

An excerpt:

The greatness of America is being able to freely, accurately and authentically talk about the world. This freedom of self-expression in storytelling can change the narrative, which changes the culture, which changes how people are treated.

Yes, we all obviously know that it will take more than just storytelling and the glorious double Daniel abs to solve the problem of Asian Americans being attacked on the streets. Ultimately, the people on the ground putting in their time and energy in their communities will be the ones who can make the most difference. It will take actually getting involved in local politics.

Read his whole column. And look forward to his Netflix specials, which hopefully will go a long way toward helping, too.
