Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman Score Showtime Series: Flatbush Misdemeanors

Congrats to comedians Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman!

Showtime has made a straight-to-series order for 10 episodes of their new half-hour comedy FLATBUSH MISDEMEANORS, in which the duo serve as both creators and stars, based on their webseries (since taken down from YouTube).

The webseries, described as “dan and kevin, longtime friends, adjust to their new surroundings in the brash environment of Flatbush, Brooklyn. a raw comedy of city life” had earned kudos at film festivals in 2017 and 2018 (Florida Film Festival; London x4 Short Film Festival; Brooklyn Web Fest; Slamdance Film Festival; New York Television Festival; Mammoth Lakes Film Festival; Pilot Light TV Festival; Sicily Web Fest.

FLATBUSH MISDEMEANORS is a funny, audacious and inventive series that rips the artisanal sheen off of Brooklyn and mines comedy from the diverse, un-gentrified characters who live there,” said Gary Levine, Showtime Networks Inc. President of Entertainment. “Kevin and Dan are multi-talented and have unique, authentic voices that we are thrilled to bring to Showtime audiences.”

Perlman, a former New Face at the 2018 Montreal Just For Laughs festival, also created and wrote an animated series, That’s My Bus!, and he has appeared on The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show. Perlman also has written for Ron Bennington’s SiriusXM program, as well as for former WGA Awards hosts Roy Wood Jr., and Lewis Black. Perlman’s debut comedy album came out this May.

Iso, originally from Houston, was a New Face in Montreal last year as well as one of Comedy Central’s Comics to Watch. He recently appeared in the Hulu series High Fidelity, and also This Week at the Comedy Cellar for Comedy Central.

“We started this project ourselves three years ago on zero budget, so this is a dream come true,” Perlman said. “We’re very grateful to everyone at Showtime, and we’re so excited to make a series that’s funny, distinct and special in a neighborhood we love.” Added Iso: “Honestly, I’m just glad I can move into a building where they don’t steal packages.”

They’ll EP their series alongside Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello for Avalon.
