Hank Azaria says he won’t voice Apu any longer on The Simpsons

Some two and a half years after comedian Hari Kondabolu exposed The Problem With Apu, the actor who voices the Indian immigrant convenience store owner on The Simpsons says he’s finally going to stop doing that.

Hank Azaria revealed that news during the winter TCA press tour. “All we know there is I won’t be doing the voice anymore, unless there’s someway to transition it or something,” he said. “What they’re going to do with the character is their call. It’s up to them and they haven’t sorted it out yet. All we’ve agreed on is I won’t do the voice anymore.”

Of course, he’s talked about stopping Apu before. The Simpsons is currently in its 31st season on FOX.

Stay tuned.
