2020 Grammy Award nominees for Best Comedy Album

The Grammy Award nominations came out today. A reminder that the Grammys use a different calendar year of eligibility, so it covers audio releases from Oct. 1, 2018, to Aug. 31, 2019.

That said, the comedy category continues to be dominated by video specials. Particularly Netflix. Amazon squeezes into the category this year thanks to its first Amazon Original stand-up comedy special: Jim Gaffigan’s “Quality Time.” But Dave Chappelle, the reigning two-time Grammy winner, is back with his latest.

Also, I guess cancel culture didn’t cancel Aziz, after all.

Apologies to all of the great comedians who put out stand-up albums during this time. Maybe next year the Grammys will remember they’re about the audio recordings?

BEST COMEDY ALBUM nominees

For albums containing at least 51% playing time of new recordings.

  • QUALITY TIME, Jim Gaffigan
  • RELATABLE, Ellen DeGeneres
  • RIGHT NOW, Aziz Ansari
  • SON OF PATRICIA, Trevor Noah
  • STICKS & STONES, Dave Chappelle

The Grammy Awards get handed out Jan. 26, 2020, live on CBS.
