Netflix nabs next Christopher Guest mockumentary, “Mascots”

Netflix is adding to its original comedy movie portfolio, announcing on Tuesday it’ll be the first to release and distribute Christopher Guest’s next movie, Mascots.

Premiering exclusively on Netflix in 2016, Mascots carries the following description: “Welcome to all the drama, intrigue, and occasional excitement of The 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where a group of ‘unusual’ men and women, with big heads and furry suits, compete to win the prestigious gold fluffy award and be crowned best mascot in the world.”

So, like Best In Show, only the furry creatures…are people!

Fans of Guest’s other improvised mockumentaries are sure to check their Netflix subscriptions.

Guest’s Mascots joins an increasing slate of original movies debuting first on Netflix in the coming year. Among them: Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous Six (first of four Sandler films in a Netflix deal) on Dec. 11, 2015; Pee-wee Herman’s Pee-wee’s Big Holiday in March 2016; and the first of multiple movies from the Duplass brothers.
