This just in: Louis CK has announced he’s playing arenas to kick off 2015, with one-night-only dates scheduled for Jan. 7, 2015, at Madison Square Garden, and Jan. 11, 2015, at the Forum in Los Angeles.
The Emmy-winning stand-up comedian and star of his own FX sitcom, Louie, also announced two nights in January where he’ll perform at The Chicago Theatre.
In a letter posted to fans today, he wrote: “Hi. It’s Louis CK. Do you remember me? I’m a professional standup comedian. Today I am writing this because I’m going to do some shows in January to wrap up this year’s touring schedule before I begin production on season five of my series.”
CK told The Comic’s Comic earlier this month that the numbers just made sense — after selling out 14 consecutive shows in November 2012 at New York City Center, that’s a combined total that can fill an arena such as MSG. Once MSG and Jim Dolan agreed to sell tickets the way Louis CK had been selling them over the past couple of years — at relatively lower prices with minimal or no ticket fees, and with restrictions in place to prevent scalping — the deal was cinched.
As he wrote today:
“Tickets are as always 45 dollars all in. Except at Madison Square Garden Arena we have some tickets for 25 and a few for 65.
New York State has laws which prohibit us from forcing out of town ticket buyers to pick up their tickets in person which is something we do in order to reduce scalping and price gouging. Therefore If you are trying to buy tickets to the Madison Square Garden Arena shows and you are outside of a 200 mile radius, you won’t be able to. This is because we think you might be buying the tickets just to resell them. If you are a fan from out of town who is getting lost in the cracks of this system please email tickets@louisck.net and we will try to help you get tickets.
I hope you make it to one of the shows.
Happy new year. Happy holidays. Happy life. Happy family. Happy pets. Happy elephants.Louis ck.”
So now instead of sitting in the seats of MSG to take in a Rangers game or a Knicks game, Louis CK can add his name to the small list of stand-up comedians who have played center stage for the full arena.
Happy holidays, indeed!
