Last night, Kurt Braunohler snapped a photo of a room full of people in Chicago and typed on Instagram: “I cannot believe 22 people will live on a river for 7 days because I had a stupid idea. #roustabout”
We cannot believe Braunohler still plans to go through his latest “stupid idea.”
And yet, this morning, he did just that. Or started to, anyhow. He began a weeklong Jet-Ski adventure from Chicago down the Illinois River to the Mississippi River all the way to New Orleans.
Last year, he’d hired a skywriter to fly above Los Angeles and puff out clouds to read “How Do I Land.” He raised the $6,o00 for that stunt, brought smiles to thousands upon thousands of people and used it as the title of his comedy album.
This year’s stunt has a bigger purpose. Braunohler hopes to raise $50,000 to provide 500 goats and 1,000 chickens for needy African families. “To help raise the money, I’m going to do the dumbest thing I think I can do. I’m going to Jet-Ski from Chicago to New Orleans. I don’t even know if that’s possible. But I’m going to try and do it,” he said, and even he couldn’t stifle his giggles at the thought. Roll the clip!
That crew of 22 people are filming his adventure for a webseries called “ROUSTABOUT,” for Comedy Central’s CC:Studios. It’ll hit your screens in July as s six-episode installment, “American Jet Ski.”
Wyatt Cenac joined Braunohler for a live comedy show last night and a ceremonial send-off from Chicago’s Navy Pier.
