You’d be nuts to think John Oliver’s final night on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart would pass by without an appropriate farewell tribute.
And yet. Oliver thought he’d be filing one last report as the “Senior Royal Correspondent” to offer his insightful jokes to Stewart about hacked communications among the British Royal Family that included Queen Elizabeth’s penchant for nuts. Nuts, I tell you! Nuts! It was all a ruse, and Stewart surprised Oliver in the Comedy Central studio by interrupting him to take a long (but not nearly long enough) look back on Oliver’s seven-and-a-half years with The Daily Show. The clips included Oliver’s many variations on a single caricature of his British accent, perverted dancing and language, and interview segments so incredulous that Oliver even acknowledged them on camera during said interviews. It ended with Stewart giving his colleague a standing ovation and Oliver wiping away tears. Even a reprise of the “Carlos Danger” dance couldn’t stop him from crying.
Bravo, John and Jon. Or should I say, HBO. Congrats to John Oliver on his move to his own weekly satire program in early 2014 on HBO.
Roll the clips!
And here it is, John Oliver’s final Moment of Zen.
