Dave Shumka is a stand-up comedian in Vancouver, British Columbia, who hosts the podcast, Stop Podcasting Yourself.
On the Fourth of July, a random assailant almost stopped Shumka dead in his tracks altogether, shooting at him from point-blank range. As Shumka described the impromptu fireworks at his head in a July 10 Tumblr post:
At around 11:15pm on July 4th, I was leaving a comedy show with about 50 other people. A man ran into the crowd with something concealed under his shirt. He then walked up to me and my friend and said, “Hey, how’s it going?” He pulled out a handgun, lifted it up to my head, and fired point blank. I didn’t realize what was happening at the time, but I ducked. I ran away and heard him fire two more times.
Shumka survived by ducking out of the way, and displayed a picture of his scalp, grazed by one of the bullets. The shooter soon thereafter shot and killed himself.
Vancouver Police confirmed the particulars of the suicide and attempted murder to the Vancouver Sun.
Shumka explains the whole story not only on his Tumblr, but also during the first half-hour of episode 281 of “Stop Podcasting Yourself.”
