David Letterman responds to jihad threat with jokes, jokes, more jokes

In his first show back on the air since a Muslim extremist sympathetic to Al-Qaeda called for jihad and threatened to cut off his tongue, David Letterman used his sharp tongue to make jokes both at his expense as well as the terrorists, unleashing a monologue and a Top 10 about it on last night’s Late Show with David Letterman.

Letterman opened his monologue by thanking his audience for serving as his “human shield,” before finding a way to tie the threat back to Jay Leno, then making several jokes about the death of Osama bin Laden, and turning the jokes back on himself with a list of people who hate Dave. “A guy gets assassinated, you can’t tell a couple of jokes?” Hide me close from Tony Danza!

Roll the clip.

Letterman continued talking about his supposed fatwa with this Top 10 list: “Top Ten Thoughts That Went Through My Mind After Hearing About the Threat.” Check it.
