MTV orders “Death Valley” to series; comedy about cops who fight zombies, vampires and werewolves

Remember back in April, when Eric Appel directed Charlie Sanders in Funny or Die's first short film, The Big Dog, and I asked Sanders what was next for him?

So what's next for you? "I just shot a pilot for MTV." How much did The
Big Dog help in that regard? "I would presume the trailer and the
existence of 'Big Dog' really helped. Eric directed the pilot, too."
What can you tell me about it? "It's about cops who fight zombies."

MTV announced Tuesday night it was ordering a 12-episode season of that cops-fighting-zombies show, called Death Valley.

Appel posted the full description of the show on his Tumblr. Essentially, it's a scripted horror-comedy with a documentary crew following a special LAPD unit, the Undead Task Force, that fights all sorts of monsters. Vampires, werewolves and zombies. The cast includes Sanders, Caity Lotz (Anna Draper's niece from this season of Mad Men) and Tania Raymonde (Rousseau's daughter from Lost). Congrats on the pickup!

MTV also announced it was ordering a first season of a coming-of-age pilot called That Girl. Not to be confused with the 1960s sitcom that starred Marlo Thomas.
