I'm surprised that nobody in the mainstream media decided to pick up on my report from Jan. 20 that NBC's Last Comic Standing is returning after a year hiatus for season seven this summer. Maybe they were all too focused on Leno and Conan to notice?
So let me repeat it with additional information. Yes. Last Comic Standing 7 will be on NBC this summer, with live in-person auditions limited to New York City and Los Angeles.
Lest you need further proof, visit the show's official NBC home, which I said needed an update — and lo and behold, it now forwards you directly to the casting information that I already gave you. Last Comic Standing 7 also has its own Facebook, MySpace and Twitter pages.
Don't ask me to get you a place on the show. Ask the LCS people themselves. As they indicated in their initial email to me, and also on the NBC casting page:
If you want to stand out from the crowd, you can submit your act electronically to lcs7submissions@gmail.com. You still must attend one of the auditions for the chance to appear on the show.
They told me and industry people that they're looking to focus less on the "house" and "challenges" this year to be more about the stand-up comedy. That's a good sign. On the other hand, I did spy this posting on a reality-TV casting site that indicates the early audition episodes still will feature just as many "zany" idiots — a la American Idol's audition episodes and past LCS seasons — as they will professional stand-ups. More news when I have it for you!
