Congratulations to Zoltan Kaszas from San Marcos, Calif., for emerging victorious in the 34th annual monthlong stand-up contest known as the Seattle International Comedy Competition.

In a “Meet the Finalist” interview before last week’s final five shows, Kaszas said winning would mean a lot to him. “There were so many talented comics this year, and over the 30 plus years of the contest, it would be a real honor to have my name on the list,” he said. “As far as the money thing goes, I would first have to pay off my mom for swiping her credit card like crazy over the last three weeks…and, whatever is left, I will throw in a low interest IRA and see what happens…”

Seattle competition organizer Peter Greyy put it this way, regarding Kaszas’ victory: “Zoltan is a strong comic who marries well-crafted material to extraordinary expressiveness. He presents a solid comedic perspective, talks about his life and what he wants to talk about and maintains a level of likability and being “in the moment” that is the envy of most comedic professionals. Zoltan is a worthy champion who earned the honors. He also happens to be a very good guy and great to hang out with… I hope that this victory acts as a springboard to launch his career worldwide. Everyone should know about what a great talent Zoltan Kaszas is…I want all of his comedy dreams to come true…and I’m thrilled that he is our new champion.”
