Pierre Novellie: “You Sit There, I Stand Here” at Edinburgh Fringe 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Thank goodness some straight white men of a certain age haven’t become reactionary idiots. That’s as true in comedy as it is everywhere else, it seems. And Pierre Novellie stands tall, or rather, big and tall, in the UK comedy scene for staying outrageously funny even as he gets older and larger than life.

As he notes, “it’s very difficult to be an observational comic when everything I observe is bad.”

And yet, despite everything else, and the existence of nude-colored shapewear appearing on the bodies of travelers traveling in public airports, Novellie (who last summer published his book, “Why Can’t I Enjoy Things? A Comedian’s Guide To Autism“) allows us to relive in laugh-out-loud detail his misadventures moving across London through the tube with his frozen meat and his wedding suit. The story may leave him with both dread and hope.

But let’s focus on the happy ending, shall we?!

Pierre Novellie: You Sit There, I Stand Here plays Monkey Barrel through Aug. 24, 2025.
