KC Shornima: “Detachment Style” at Edinburgh Fringe 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐

KC Shornima grew up separated from her parents during the Nepalese Civil War, moved to Egypt at 18 just in time for the Arab Spring, and then at 29 found herself in New York City. What could go wrong?

But Shornima has a strong grasp on stand-up comedy, so she knows full well in the power of three. And after three seasons as a Weekend Update writer for Saturday Night Live (she also wrote for Colin Jost’s 2024 White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech), she can shrewdly tap into “white liberal guilt” for punchlines.

She also knows that in her own family and relationships, she stands out. Her sister has empathy. Her boyfriend cries. Even her dog cries. And yet, for whatever reason, she doesn’t? Perhaps the Oracle of Delphi could provide some answers. In the meantime, prepare yourself for a clever hour of jokes and stories.

KC Shornima: Detachment Style plays Pleasance Bunker One through Aug. 24, 2025.
