Tobias Finlay-Frasier is ready for his close up. Even if the mere sight of Tobias entering the room for his audition is enough to make any casting director sigh audibly and loudly.
But something about this audition feels different from the start. It’s not just that Tobias came prepared with more head shot than you know what to do with, or that he’ll rely on us in the room to help him with lines or supporting parts, but this overconfident underemployed buffoon who thinks himself a thespian is so willing to do absolutely anything to finally book a role. As played by Casey Filips, a Greek-Australian actor based in Melbourne who studied clowning at Ecole Philippe Gaulier, the goofy Aussie-ness of it all makes for a wild mash-up with his very Greek look. He has brought this show to Fringes past, both here and across Australia, and yet it definitely hits the funny bones a bit easier and stronger when he gets to embrace his inner manatee in a shipping container at the end of the night when other Fringe performers can swing by to enhance his tomfoolery.
