Philipp Kostelecky: “Daddy’s Home” at Edinburgh Fringe 2023

*** 1/2 (out of 5)

At 25, Philipp Kostelecky still looks like the villain in a high-school basketball movie. That might be the Austrian in him. Kostelecky is a mix of Austrain, American and Slovenian.

His dad left when Philipp was only 9. Now, his deadbeat dad is merely dead. Cue the mariachi band outside? Not today. Just the trams, where you might find him likely to sneak more than a peek at your phone. He still works a day job, even telling audiences he worked 9-3 during Fringe before his daily show at 4 p.m.? He’s not ashamed, tho, since he works somewhere where his boss and coworkers don’t want to be there, either. Based on this hour, he shouldn’t need that day job much longer. Unless he keeps insisting in calling himself daddy.
