Paul F Taylor: “Head in the Clouds” at Edinburgh Fringe 2023

*** 1/2 (out of 5)

“Who’s going whimsy at this hour? I am!”

So declares Paul F. Taylor shortly before midnight in the basement of Monkey Barrel 2. Absurdity may be better appreciated at such a late hour, but Taylor also delves into some very heartfelt bits about his daughter. Those, the crowds might not have the capacity for, but that’s not Taylor’s fault. For whimsy, please enjoy watching him deconstruct mime philosophy, employ sight gags as callbacks to previous talking points, and let your head likewise float into the clouds as he deploys a very labor-intensive bit nightly to illustrate his most meandering and provoking thoughts.

Paul F Taylor: Head in the Clouds runs through Aug. 27 at Monkey Barrel 2
