Sara Barron: “Hard Feelings,” at Edinburgh Fringe 2022

***1/2 (out of 5)

A nominee for Best Newcomer to the Fringe in 2018, expat Sara Barron has returned to Edinburgh with a cracking new hour.

Even after a full decade living, working and starting a family in Britain, Barron concedes that she’s still easily described as having “American energy.” That energy demonstrates itself time and again in this hour. She may be 42 but has the spirit of a 25-year-old. She may have a British husband and a six-year-old son, but her crowd work and her storytelling suggests she’s open to anything. Especially when discussing her husband’s emergency medical issues, their early troubles attempting to conceive, and all of the bodily fluids that might come out along the way. There may be a thruline here, but it’s not necessarily one of those traditional Fringe shows that needs resolution through catharsis or epiphanies or whatnot. Sometimes the jokes themselves provide catharsis enough.

Sara Barron: Hard Feelings runs through Aug. 28, 2022, at Pleasance Courtyard (Upstairs).
