Employee of the Month (June 2022): Joel Kim Booster

Comedy doesn’t have a Human Resources department, so leave it to The Comic’s Comic to dole out honors and/or discipline accordingly. Our Employee of the Month for June 2022 is Joel Kim Booster. Congrats Joel!

NOTE: This is a feature I introduced on my Substack, Piffany, in 2021, and have transferred over to The Comic’s Comic, where it truly belongs.

Past Employees of the Month have included: The Kids In The Hall (May 2022), Jerrod Carmichael (April 2022), Amy Schumer (March 2022), Volodymyr Zelenskyy (February 2022), W. Kamau Bell (January 2022), Nicole Byer (December 2021), Jackie Kashian and Laurie Kilmartin (November 2021), James Austin Johnson (October 2021), Phoebe Robinson (September 2021), Ms. Pat (August 2021), and Kevin Hart (July 2021).

June’s pick is a pretty easy one to make.

After all, what hasn’t Joel Kim Booster done this past month?

On the stand-up front, he not only performed on the Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration at The Greek Theatre as part of the Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival, but also starred in his own debut hour special for Netflix, Psychosexual.

On the series front, Booster plays the personal assistant to billionaire Molly Novak (Maya Rudolph) in the new Apple TV+ comedy, Loot.

And on the movie screen, Booster shines as the writer and star of his own rom-com, Fire Island, a Hulu film adapting Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” for the gay men who gallivant on the coast of Long Island each summer.

Say what you will about the rest of the world, but in June 2022, the comedy world revolved around Joel Kim Booster. Congrats!
