Apple TV+ struck gold in making the critically-beloved award-winning Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis. So why not turn to one of J-Sud’s former SNL cast mates and go even bigger?
Enter Maya Rudolph. She’ll star in untitled half-hour comedy series as “Molly, a woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars.” Apple TV+ ordered it straight to series.
Rudolph’s series comes from co-creators Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard. Hubbard worked with Rudolph on Forever for Amazon Prime Video. Yang already has a relationship with Apple TV+ with Little America. Other EPs alongside Yang, Hubbard and Rudolph are Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Renfrew of Rudolph’s production shingle, Animal Pictures, and Rudolph’s manager, Dave Becky of 3 Arts. Universal Television will serve as production studio.
Apple TV+ also has another SNL-related project coming this summer: Schmigadoon!, a musical comedy starring Cecily Strong and EP’d by Lorne Michaels.
