Hasan Minhaj’s Netflix talk show Patriot Act has ended.
Minhaj announced the news to fans and followers on Twitter today, writing: “What a run. @patriotact has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy”
The show ran for six seasons, with this year’s final season filmed in quarantine in Minhaj’s home outside of New York City.
The show won a Peabody Award in 2018.
It’s another in a string of weekly talk shows fronted by comedians that have fallen through the cracks of Netflix’s giant platform. Michelle Wolf and Joel McHale, though, didn’t make it as far as Minhaj had. So is Netflix just not a place for a weekly comedy series, or just not a certain type of comedy series? Discuss.
