Review: Eddie Griffin, “E-NIGGMA” on Showtime

Eddie Griffin held down a Las Vegas residency before the pandemic hit, and filmed his most recent stand-up special there for Showtime. The looseness of his late-night shows in Las Vegas shows here, too.

As I wrote last year:

This feels more like a night out at the comedy club than a true special. Then again, perhaps it’s the kind of baffling choice that keeps one enigmatic.

Regardless, you’d think someone who’s been working Vegas for 11 years would have more interesting takes on the Strip than how outdated the sidewalk impersonators are, or how the odds at casinos are forever staked against you.

That said, he also has some things to say about the dangers of white people, too. Some of which remains timely. Some of which feels like it shouldn’t.
