Gavin & Stacey will reunite for a 2019 BBC Christmas special

James Corden may be a late-night TV star in America, but later this year, he’s going back to where it all started for him on the telly.

Corden announced that he and Ruth Jones have written a Gavin & Stacey special that gets the gang back together for a BBC Christmas special in 2019.

The series initially aired from 2007-2010 on the BBC.

It starred Mathew Horne as Gavin, a lad from Essex, and Stacey, a lass from Wales, who first met over the phone, then fell in love at first sight and got married. Corden and Jones played Gavin and Stacey’s best friends.

“Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.”
