BET bails out of late-night talk, cancels The Rundown with Robin Thede

Welp.

The Rundown with Robin Thede offered a strong, funny point-of-view you could find nowhere else on TV or streaming, complete with fun musical numbers and obligatory body rolls. And yet BET never knew what to do with what it had. And so BET announced today it wasn’t renewing Thede’s late-night talker for a second season.

“At this time BET Networks has decided not to renew The Rundown with Robin Thede. We have so much love and respect for our Unicorn and look forward to finding ways to continue in partnership with Robin,” BET said in a statement.

Good luck with that. Thede is better than BET.

Thede had graduated from head writer and later correspondent on Larry Wilmore’s on Comedy Central talker, The Nightly Show, and proved why she should be front and center on her own nightly TV series. Now it’s just up to some network smart enough to give it to her.

The TV Critics Association knows what’s up. They already have Thede booked to host the TCA Awards on Aug. 4 at the end of this summer’s annual TCA press tour in Pasadena.

Thede wrote on Twitter about the news today: “Classic “High critical praise/low ratings.” Thanks to my staff/crew for being so dedicated, funny & brilliant. I’m so proud of what we made. And thanks for watching! We did it for all of YOU. Except Ben Carson. *body roll*”

Now enjoy this playlist. Body roll it!
