Kristen Wiig will star in a sitcom for Apple TV

Apple’s launch into original TV/streaming programming continues, with the announcement late last week that Kristen Wiig will star in a half-hour sitcom for them, executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and her production shingle. Wiig starred for seven seasons on Saturday Night Live and earned four Emmy nominations during that time. She also received an Academy Award nomination for co-writing her 2011 hit movie, Bridesmaids. Amazon renews The Tick, but cancels One Mississippi, I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson

Amazon, in the wake of ousting its programming chief for sexual harassment and more, is moving forward without some of its better-loved female-fronted programming. Say what? I know. And yet. Amazon has renewed The Tick, while cancelling Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi after two seasons, and I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson after just one.
