Samantha Bee defends against any #MeToo backlash on Full Frontal

On last night’s episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Bee opened her weekly TBS show by examining how there’s already a backlash against the #MeToo movement, or as Bee jokingly calls the backlash, the #YouTooLoud movement.

Bee said the “Shitty Media Men” list that was so popular and anonymous it got taken down by its creator after only 12 hours never meant to equate rape with other shitty behavior.

“Literally nobody is saying they’re the same! The list wasn’t called ‘Rapists & Other People Whose 100% Verified Crimes I Consider to be Equal to Rape.’ What many fail to understand is that it doesn’t have to rape to ruin your life, and it doesn’t have to ruin your life to be worth speaking out about. Any kind of sexual harassment or coercion is unacceptable. So what the fuck are women supposed to do to protect ourselves? If we go public with a story, we’re petty cry-babies hell-bent on destroying men’s careers. If we write a secret list to protect each other, we’re gossipy shrews telling lies in the shadows. What men literally cannot understand is: This isn’t about them!”

But the Aziz Ansari story has brought women out against #MeToo, too.

Bee examines that, too, saying no one is trying to end his career; but rather, point out Ansari’s hypocrisy as a guy who wrote a best-selling book about how to sex good, only to not treat women well in real-life. If you don’t want to treat women well, “take off your fucking pin, because we are not your accessories.”
