Seven more weeks! Seven more weeks!
Comedy Central has extended the inaugural season of The President Show for an additional seven episodes, Comedy Central President Kent Alterman announced today. The late-night satire of President Trump, starring Anthony Atamanuik, airs late-night Thursdays after The Daily Show.
“Whether we’re witnessing the end of democracy, or merely the end of the world, it’s a privilege seeing it from the inside,” said Alterman.
“I’m so grateful that Comedy Central has decided to end its tenure as a cable network by renewing The President Show,” said Atamanuik.
The President Show debuted a month ago to 1 million viewers (L3, aka live viewing plus the follow 3 days), the biggest audience for a Comedy Central series premiere since Broad City, and is averaging 870,000 total viewers across its first four episodes. In its timeslot, the series adult 18-49 rating is up +21% versus a year ago and up +25% in total viewers.
Atamanuik hosts it like a traditional late-night TV talk show, with Peter Grosz portraying his sidekick, Vice President Mike Pence, field pieces and interview segments. So far, Atamanuik as Trump has stumped the likes of Keith Olbermann, Dan Savage, Deepak Chopra, and women’s march organizer Linda Sarsour. His guest this week is independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin from Utah.
And more surreal satire like this, from last week, going deep into the mind of The Donald…
