If you thought there weren’t enough comedy festivals in 2016…and there’s got to be some of you out there…or if you really feel there isn’t a significant enough comedy festival in the United States to trump (pardon the term) Montreal’s Just For Laughs, the Edinburgh Fringe or Melbourne, then Comedy Central and the makers of Bonnaroo and Outside Lands have just the thing for you in 2017.
A brand-new Comedy Central comedy festival in San Francisco, to take place over a three-day weekend in the summer of 2017.
It’ll include music, entertainment and food, much like Bonnaroo and Outside Lands, and be jointly run by Superfly, the company that throws those annual outdoor bashes each summer in Tennessee and San Francisco, respectively.
HBO used to run the nation’s preeminent comedy festival each winter in Aspen (U.S. Comedy Arts Festival), before launching a separate event in Las Vegas, and turning it over to TBS. TBS later joined forces with Just For Laughs to host an annual comedy fest in June in Chicago.
“The other festivals were more industry driven, this is a totally fan-driven event for the comedy super fans,” Comedy Central President Kent Alterman told Deadline.
When I get the dates for that, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, expect major news out of SF Sketchfest tomorrow for its annual celebration of fun and funny in January.
I have never join any comedy festival 😮 What is the differences from a music festival? Never watched any outdoor comedy performance. Thank you for sharing!
