CBS orders Jermaine Fowler’s “Superior Donuts” to series for midseason 2017

Jermaine Fowler will star in primetime for CBS come 2017, now that the Eye Network has ordered his Superior Donuts to series for midseason.

CBS had recast and reshot the pilot over the summer after passing on it for this fall.

Judd Hirsch and Katey Sagal now will co-star with Fowler in Superior Donuts. The rest of the cast includes David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans and Rell Battle.

It’s based on a play by Tracy Letts, following the relationship between the owner of a Chicago donut shop (Hirsch) and his new employee (Fowler), along with the shop’s regular customers.

“This show has been very high on our radar since we first put it into development last winter,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller. “Jermaine Fowler is a rising young star, Judd Hirsch is a comedy legend and the entire cast is full of great comedic talent.”

Bob Daily, Neil Goldman and  Garrett Donovan wrote and executive produced the CBS multi-cam adaptation. Daily also is showrunner for The Odd Couple reboot on CBS. Other EPs on the sitcom, produced in-house by CBS Television Studios, are Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg, Josh Lieberman and Fowler.

Congrats to all!
