Mikey Day promoted to Saturday Night Live cast for Season 42

Mikey Day passed his summer audition, receiving a promotion from writing staff to cast member for the upcoming 42nd season of Saturday Night Live after co-starring this summer on NBC’s new weekly variety series, Maya & Marty.

Day, 36, has written for SNL since 2013, most frequently writing partners for departing cast member Taran Killam — coincidentally, Day and Killam co-wrote the screenplay for Brother Nature, which opens in movie theaters and VOD today.

Day got his first break a decade ago via Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘N Out (where he and Killam also performed together) but entered NBC’s consciousness in 2009 as a correspondent for Jay Leno’s primetime variety hour. He then earned a recurring role in the short-lived sitcom, Kath & Kim. He also appeared in two other brief sketch comedy efforts, Showtime’s The Underground starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., and Nick Cannon’s Short Circuitz. In addition to his SNL work, Day also has currently been writing and providing voices for Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken.

Here’s one of the sketches Day appeared in this summer for Maya & Marty, with special guest John Cena.

And you can see Day with Bobby Moynihan and Streeter Seidell talking about how they wrote “The Hobbit Office” sketch that you all enjoyed on SNL:

Congrats on your promotion and your new movie, Mikey Day!
