Alonzo Bodden first came to your attention as a contestant on the second season of Last Comic Standing. Bodden won the special all-star third season of Last Comic Standing, then returned to serve as a judge for the show’s fifth season.
Bodden’s first big break came when he was a “New Face” in 1997 at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, which he has subsequently hosted three times. He’s made the late-night TV rounds, hosted America’s Worst Driver on Travel Channel and 101 Cars You Must Drive on Speed Channel, had supporting roles on the big screen in Scary Movie 4 and Bringing Down the House. He also recurred on Showtime’s Californication, and has his second stand-up special coming on Showtime in early 2016. You can hear him regularly on NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, or his own podcast, “Who’s Paying Attention?”
Bodden grew up in Queens, and spoke to me between headlining shows at Caroline’s on Broadway near Times Square — where he reconnected with relatives and had just dealt with a crowd that included two bachelorette parties and one bachelor party! He’s so quick to size up an audience, and he spoke to me about that, plus how he continues to work on the next gig and next project. You can catch Bodden on the road across North America.
His work ethic makes him a great person to talk to for Labor Day. So let’s get to it!
The Comic’s Comic Presents Last Things First is produced by ShowBriz Studios.
