Felipe Esparza‘s birthday wish probably isn’t to have another comedian doing a bit on TV that’s similar to his own.
Especially when the bit is done by a contestant on season 8 of Last Comic Standing. Esparza won Last Comic the last time NBC mounted the contest in 2010 for season 7.
And yet. Yesterday, Esparza posted this: “Maybe this guy @KarlousM can win @nbclastcomic since he used my joke from 4 years ago when I won… You decide.” With a link to a video in which Esparza tells his joke on Stand-Up For Family special, followed by Karlous Miller’s version in his Last Comic audition.
The joke in question is set up with a premise of two Mexicans without car insurance getting into an accident.
Miller hadn’t responded to Esparza’s Tweet about the joke, or on Facebook, where several others have chimed in with varying opinions. Some even joked that perhaps Miller merely witnessed Esparza’s own accident joke (points for going meta!). Miller told his joke within his LCS audition that appeared on TV last Thursday and again Monday night.
But a day before Esparza’s video comparison surfaced, Miller did Tweet this: “You still give a fuck what people think, that’s what’s holding you back. Stop giving a fuck, watch shit change!”
For what that’s worth.
What’s it worth to you?
Wow…I think Felipe needs to get over himself! The joke in question has a different setup and a from a different view point. Felipe is so worried about people stealing his jokes because the last time he told any was when he won! I’ve never even heard of this Felipe guy before!!! Stop obsessing about what actual working comedians are doing and come up with some new material! This Felipe guy kinda sounds like a B!+«#.
