What’s happening in the comedy world these days…
- Comedy Central has a seventh summer of free comedy shows planned in the parks of New York City. Rain or shine. On June 26, 2013, Gabriel Iglesias hosts “Comedy Central Stars Under The Stars” in Central Park (near Fifth Avenue at 69th Street), with performances from Dan Soder, Adam Devine, John Mulaney, Jeff Ross and Amy Schumer. On Aug. 18, 2013, “Comedy Central Live Presents The Dark Lords of Comedy” at East River Park in Manhattan with Mike Lawrence, Jared Logan and Dan St. Germain.
- The new edition of Wild ‘N Out returns on June 25, 2013, on MTV2, with a new one-hour special that looks back at the old edition and also introduces the new cast. “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out,” premieres on MTV2 on Tuesday, July 9. It’ll be followed by the series debut of “Ain’t That America with Lil Duval.”
- Erin Jackson is part of a new weekly talk show, exhale, on the new ASPiRE channel — it’ll launch June 27, with episodes following at 8 p.m. Wednesdays starting July 10. Jackson’s co-hosts are Angela Burt-Murray, Issa Rae, Rene Syler and Malinda Williams.
- Fans of ABC’s TGIF will rejoice knowing their childhood friends are reuniting with them on the TV — Disney Channel officially ordered Girl Meets World, the Boy Meets World sequel, which brings back Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprising their roles as Cory and Topanga, now with a teenage daughter learning the ways of the world.
- The Daytime Emmys handed out awards over the weekend. Among this year’s winners: The Price is Right (outstanding game show); Ben Bailey (outstanding game show host); Ellen DeGeneres (outstanding talk show); and Kevin Clash (outstanding performance in a children’s show, as Elmo on Sesame Street).
